My Biography

Dr. Ghassan Omar Shahin has obtained his PhD in Computer Science (E-Learning) from University of Malaya in 2012.  He has an MBA in Information Systems from Maastricht School of Management, and a BSc. in Computer Science from INTERCOLLEGE (now University of Nicosia).  He served as the Dean of College of Administrative Sciences & Informatics (CASI), Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) from 1999 to 2004 and from 2012 to 2014, and as the Information Manager for 2 years at PPU.  He has more than 25 years of work experience in private sector and academia in different countries including Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Palestine.  He is a certified e-commerce consultant since 2002.  Currently, he is a Master Trainer (Academic Developer) for faculty development at Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at PPU, in addition to his role as Assistant Prof of E-Learning and Information Systems at CASI.

Dr. Shahin possesses qualities and characteristics of an Intrapreneur, where his initiatives and creative ideas have materialized at PPU as new academic programs and others.  Some of such include him being the founding Dean of CASI at PPU.  He has founded three Bachelor Degree programs of CASI, namely Information Systems, Contemporary Business Administration, and Information Technology in 1995, 1999, and 2000 respectively.  In addition, he has a major role in founding other programs such as Multimedia / Graphics program, Project Management – both are Undergraduate programs - Office Automation & Administration, and Software and Databases (Associate degree programs).  He represented the university in various committees on national levels, and was a member of the national committee to draft a law on e-learning for higher education in Palestine. On the international level, he was a member of several projects such the METHODS Erasmus+ project, and currently he is involved with “Digital Marketing in Support of Private Sector Growth and Student Entrepreneurship” project.

Dr. Shahin is an Academic Developer, where he facilitates training for faculty in topic such as innovative teaching and learning methods, assessment, technology in education, and flipped learning, among others. In addition, he was a team member in the Coding Class project – AMIDEAST and MOE – where he has a role in designing and implementing pilot curricula for teaching programming for 9th grade. He also is a co-author of programming textbook for 9th grade.

Dr. Shahin is a member of Editorial Boards and Reviewers of International Journals, local and international conferences, and as committee member and session chair.  He has a number of conference and journal papers.  He has acted as internal examiner for Master Thesis at University of Malaya and at PPU, External examiner at Hebron University, Alquds University, Birzeit University, Al-Istiqlal University, and has supervised many Master Thesis and undergraduate projects.  His research interests are mainly in E-Learning, particularly in Blended Learning, with interest in learner analytics, in addition to business intelligence and big data analytics
